Portrait of a Mother with Broken Arm
Acrylic painting, 32" 20" This a portrait of my sister,Robin, and her child, Victoria. I often think of her short life and how cruel it was, being born with a cleft palate, constantly in surgery to correct the birth defect and the damage caused to her ears. All she knew was pain as a child, and yet, if anyone asked, “How are you, Robin?.” She would always reply, “Fine, I am Fine.” She grew up to be an intelligent and pretty young woman, but she married an abusive husband. The last time I saw her alive, she had a broken arm inflicted by her husband. During his fit of rage, he threw her out of the house onto the concrete sidewalk. Then, he returned with the baby, and threw her out the door too. Robin caught Victoria with a broken arm and all.
