Unwanted Things
Acrylic paint and collage 18" x 18" I wonder how many people will understand this self portrait entitled “Unwanted Things”? To help you better understand this painting, we will have to go back in time. Imagine a sensitive child filled with wonder and awe with the beauty that surrounds him. In his young mind he feels close to the creator responsible for this magnificence. As he matures he begins to realize he is different. He hears the jokes and learns all the nasty names associated with his existence. He feels the pain of not fitting in, being different, feeling isolated. He is told he is an abomination and God hates him. He cries himself to sleep at night while praying to God to let him die and not see the morning. Then begins a life long journey of self hate, pain, and loneliness. He seeks a way to survive the blind hatred he sees in other’s eyes. He grieves in sorrow so deep that he will burst into tears without any apparent reason. This is who he is. This is the life given to him. He has tried to live it the best he can, but some wounds never heal. Child abuse comes in many forms. "Unwanted Things" When it is over Pile them high One on top of the other All my creations Big and small The perfections, the mistakes They all look the same to a blind eye When my petty efforts reach the sky Place me on top The last of the unwanted things Light the match At last I will create a masterpiece Watch the smoke billow and flow Like swirling paint Is how I go Ron Richard Baviello 2015
