It was during the cold and rainy days of early spring, when I moved into my new home in Frederick, Maryland. When warm weather arrived the first thing to greet me was these poppies, a large bed of them in front of the house. It was a beautiful surprise. They have blessed me every year for twelve years since. This may be the first year they don’t return. They were invaded by crown vetch and had to be sprayed. This painting is a way for me to remember them and the happiness they brought me.
